Description

POSITION PURPOSE:

The Benefits Assistant is responsible for the management of data related to benefit and retirement programs as well as HR related data. Benefit and retirement plan data include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, short- and long-term disability, and 401(k) plans. HR data includes new hire data and state and federal client and employee reporting.

Essential Functions:

  • Benefit plan data entry based on plan setup requirements
  • Update carriers for new hire enrollments, terminations, qualifying life events, etc
  • Work with vendor for HSA/FSA management
  • Compliance data entry to meet all regulatory requirements
  • Report new hires weekly to appropriate state departments
  • Process written verifications of employment, garnishments, court orders for health plan enrollments
  • Other duties may be assigned.

QUALIFICATION REQUIREMENTS:

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in business, human resources, or related area preferred
  • One-year relevant experience working with benefits
  • One-year relevant experience working with HR

LANGUAGE SKILLS:

  • Ability to effectively communicate (oral and written) in English with both internal and external carriers
  • Communicating with supervisors, co-workers, subordinates, and people outside of Tilson, representing Tilson to vendors, the public, government, and other external sources. This information can be exchanged in person, in writing, or by telephone or e-mail.
  • Ability to professionally communicate (oral and written) with both internal and external customers

TECHNICAL/COMPUTER SKILLS:

  • Working knowledge of email and MS Office software programs necessary
  • Familiarity with popular / common HRIS systems preferred
  • Ability and willingness to effectively use other job-related technology tools
  • Prior knowledge of using different benefit carriers systems to enter and pull data

OTHER SKILLS and ABILITIES:

  • Above average attention to detail necessary to ensure all duties are complete, accurate and compliant with applicable policies and procedures
  • Organizational skills are critical
  • Conflict and relationship management skills
  • Ability to work on multiple projects simultaneously with frequent interruptions
  • Above average mathematical skills

PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

  • Ability to stand under 1/3 of the time
  • Ability to walk under 1/3 of the time
  • Ability to sit over 2/3 of the time
  • Ability to talk or hear from 1/3 to 2/3 of the time
  • Ability to lift up to 5lb.s under 1/3 of the time

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • This position requires working independently as well as part of a team
  • This position requires verbal and virtual contact with others on a daily basis
  • Frequent use of a computer and general office equipment is necessary
  • Must have a designated work from home setup, with strong Wi-Fi for frequent calls. This area must not be a shared space due to the confidentiality of employee information
  • When in office, must be able to work with moderate interruptions and noise in a fast paced environment
